Brakes can’t talk – or can they? If you’re not distracted with chatter or music, you might hear your brakes trying to tell you when something’s wrong. The easiest way you can avoid brake failure is by maintaining the vehicle regularly and being attentive to any changes in performance. Because a vehicle’s brake system involves many components along the entire length of the vehicle, any number of things can go wrong like calipers, brake shoes and brake pads etc. Inspect brake pads, discs and shoes annually and replace them if they are worn. Change the brake fluid every 48,000 miles or every four years which ever comes sooner, also seek advice if you experience any of the following symptoms.
- The antilock brake system [ABS] light comes on.
- When accelerating, you feel a lot of drag.
- The brake pedal pulses when you brake. You hear clicking, grinding, or squeaking when you apply the brake.
- The car grabs, or pulls to one side
